Beef to the legging thief. My mom’s tights have vanished. Where did they go? How does one lose one’s tights? She would like them back. Multiple people in Nanaimo have been complaining of lost leggings recently.

BOUQUET To the Rocky Point Neighbourhood Association which has accomplished so much. You are all so busy with your jobs and your families. I appreciate you giving of your valuable time and energy to volunteer for the community. Thank you.

BEEF To the legging thief. My mom’s tights have vanished. Where did they go? How does one lose one’s tights? She would like them back. Multiple people in Nanaimo have been complaining of lost leggings recently. Someone must have taken them. If anyone sees a person with an unusually large amount of leggings, please ask them to kindly cease the thievery of unsuspecting citizens’ pants.

BOUQUET To Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Not being in the best health. I spend lots of time here. The doctors, nurses and all support staff are always the best. Yesterday was day surgery for a pacemaker, in and out same day and resting at home, a modern miracle for sure. Don’t listen to the leader of the opposition, our system has worked every time for me; it’s not broken.

BEEF This council has a tarnished track record of bad decisions and waste. Now it wants to spend $163 million on a works yard. I accept that a works yard upgrade is needed; however, I have a difficulty with the outrageous cost of the project. Why can’t the city develop a purpose-built, pre-fab steel structure similar to many designed to suit buildings in industrial parks country wide? It’s time for this profligate council to grasp reality and become fiscally responsible.

BOUQUET To parent parking. These spots are wider for strollers, closer for pregnant moms-to-be, and also make it easier for parents to properly secure their young ones in their seats safely. The person who beefed about this is out of touch and self-entitled.

BEEF Stop speeding down Williamson Road near Frank Ney Elementary School. There are children walking to and from school and groups using Harry Wipper Park and Wally Creek path.

BOUQUET To the woman in the coffee shop who yelled at me after I got her napkins to clean up her coffee spill. I didn’t mean to offend or be nosy. Your behaviour suggests that you are struggling, I hope the flowers cheer you up.

BEEF To those who confront people without checking facts. In regards to Buttertubs Marsh and the trail surrounding it, the section of trail between Buttertubs Drive and Bird Sanctuary Drive allows on-leash dogs and bicycles. This is not only an access to different parts of the neighbourhood for those who live in this area, but is also part of the Great Canadian Trail. Please educate yourself before accusing people.

BOUQUET To the parking lot protector at Nanaimo Christian School. You are doing such a great job. I heard you greeting all the kids with such a friendly, respectful manner and making sure they made it safely to their pickup destination. Thank you.

BEEF To owners of all the unleashed dogs on Ambience Drive these days. Large, unleashed dogs on work sites are free to run out and bother people walking on the street, which they do. Also, large dogs are being ‘walked’ off-leash, hundreds of yards away from owners. No control at all. Animal control will now be called every single time.

BOUQUET To the people who put up Christmas decorations along the Walley Creek path. Brought a lot of smiles and appreciation for the Christmas spirit.

BEEF Why is it some people get free drugs, but I have to pay money for my medicine?

BOUQUET Thank you to Joe, he’s my hero, you know. Thanks is much too tame a word, so a loud cheer is what you heard. For all the yard clearing – now, no mess to be fearing. He toiled and toiled, now I feel spoiled.

BEEF To the City of Nanaimo management. Twice now someone has failed with the AAP. Is anyone getting fired?

BOUQUET To my lemon tree for giving me more than 30 lemons this January. Hands off, Shelbyville.

BEEF To local governments for wasting taxpayers’ money on vanity projects like fancy bike lanes, which are used by virtually no one, while not finding the resources to add more buses to the most overwhelmed routes in this city, like the 40 VIU Express.

BOUQUET To Sandra at Quality Foods Harewood. Again, another beautiful flower arrangement. From bouquets of lovely cut flowers to your excellent customer service. Awesome lady.

BEEF To all levels of government that are enabling people to stay on drugs by providing them the substances that can kill them. Also, why would these people want to get off drugs and get a job when they get free food, free housing, free needles, free clothes, money? There should be no choice to send these people to rehab at this point.

BOUQUET To my husband/bestie. He is kind, calm, and one heck of a golfer. He makes sure a beautiful healthy dinner awaits when I get home from work, takes care of all our floofy critters and sees to it that my mom has all she needs too. He supports me in all I do and he is the champion captain in my world, and our children’s worlds. Happy 60th to the very best ‘Bapak’ on the planet.

BEEF To the Blueback neighbour who handed out Christmas concert flyers to trick-or-treaters and still has said flyers plastered on all the mailboxes in the area.

BOUQUET to Lynsey.

BEEF To the social service agency for not cleaning up after your clients. Garbage, junk, food containers, drug paraphernalia, feces and poopy toilet paper all over the area. It’s disgusting. Other people and businesses shouldn’t have to clean up after you. Do better.

BOUQUET Thank you to the young team of paramedics that came to my home in Woodgrove Estates and helped me turn the corner in my battle against COVID.

BEEF To transit for not cleaning often. The inside of buses seats are dusty, floor often dirty with garbage, unbelievable. It used to be way better.

BOUQUET To all the wonderful people in the wound clinic for treating me so gently and carefully. Once again, thanks.

BEEF To the so-called service people out there who are bitter about doing their job with respect to the customers spending money, which pays your income.

BOUQUET To Leona at Port Place Hair Spa for always taking the time and going above and beyond to give a great haircut. You are Nanaimo’s best-kept secret.

BEEF It looks like Nanaimo council had messed up the AAP again. How many times will the ‘no’ side be forced to go through this fight?

BOUQUET Thanks to the responsible pet owners who consistently pick up after their dogs.

BEEF To T. You know what you did.

BOUQUET To the stores that do provide large parent parking spaces. It is not the distance that is the benefit, it is the large-enough space to open the doors fully to remove kids without contacting other vehicles.

BEEF To the ‘thrift’ store that’s now a privately owned for-profit store. The name goes way back in the second-hand business so don’t expect to find any of the bargains that used to be.

BOUQUET To all the drivers who have managed to negotiate Neck Point Park’s parking lot without damaging their vehicle. It mostly consists of potholes 4-6 inches deep. Come on, let’s have a proper paved parking lot in one of the busiest parks in Nanaimo.

BEEF To R. Justice for G.

BOUQUET To Joe Burger for always providing the best service, burger and onion rings in town.

BEEF To so many door-to-door sales people this month. ‘No, thank you’ means just that. One fellow was trying to sell me a new paint job, even though the same outfit painted our house two years ago. Another, getting increasingly aggressive, said I looked like I could afford his price for lawn service. How does he know? Truth is I’m just another senior on a low fixed income. Sorry, but a ‘no soliciting’ sign goes up today.

BOUQUET To Turley’s Florist; very happy with the Valentine’s bouquet selection and my wife seemed to love getting the flowers.

BEEF To the lady on the lake in Cedar who so rudely told me to get off her property when I was in my kayak at the edge of the shore and sent her dog after me. No reason to be so nasty. I was enjoying the lake that belongs to everyone.

BOUQUET To Ann Marie’s Angel Network with special honorary mention to one of her helpers. Liane delivered a nice Christmas hamper to our home and it made our Christmas happier. Great job.

BEEF To the B.C. speculation tax hunters. Why are all the islands exempt? Who exactly lives there? Asking for a friend.

BOUQUET To Lanny at Old City Plumbing. On time, great work, cleans up and very pleasant. Thank you.

BEEF To the people feeding the ravens and seagulls at the mall. You are training them to think humans are a food source and they are becoming increasingly aggressive. They are wildlife that can seek food on their own. Stop feeding them for your own enjoyment. One was hit by a car the other day.

BOUQUET To Sean, the manager at Save-On-Foods Brooks Landing. He not only goes over and above for his Island customers, but he also makes sure that people in other cities off the Island are looked after as well. The world could use a few more Seans.

BEEF To the security guard at the mall for policing children on the play structure in their socks. You can do hard drugs in public but kids can’t play at an indoor playground in socks. I think there are bigger things to be concerned about.

BOUQUET to Ryan.

BEEF The architectural design of modern buildings in the Old City Quarter and south end truly ruin the character of the area. You could at least have required the facade conform to the area. Little by little this city gets destroyed in both small and large ways.

BOUQUET To Carmella of the Wellington School Band. Thank you for providing excellent student music education and all the enjoyable concerts and gigs. It gives our youths a positive experience and social exposure.

BEEF To the neighbours who think ‘curb appeal’ means put your garbage, recycle bins in the front yard instead of the side or backyard.

BOUQUET To Gabriola Island RCMP for their patience, diligence and generosity to accommodate disabilities to ensure police service accessibility. During a crisis, Petra gave me clear info to stay safe and Cpl. Mullen has gone above and beyond to allow me to submit evidence without bias. I greatly appreciate his guidance with building my best possible safety plan.

BEEF For the second time the the City of Nanaimo’s $48.5 million AAP has been cancelled. All the ‘no’ voters have wasted their time and spent thousands of dollars in printer supplies and postage or gas again. How many times can they force the ‘no’ voters to fight this wasteful spending?

BOUQUET Thanks to the many people who showed us kindness and went out of their way to assist us during our recent trip. We are seniors and my husband is legally blind. B.C. Ferries staff were very helpful. The many passengers behind us were patient and polite and a young lady helped with our suitcase. When on the bus, a young man made sure that we both got a seat, and a young dad kept our suitcase from rolling away for the entire trip. Our little journey turned out to be a wonderful experience. It has given us the incentive to explore more of the Island and just possibly the mainland without having to drive.
