Bouquet to the gentleman who walked with me down Bruce Avenue when I was a little nervous.

BOUQUET To the security guard who assisted me after I spun out on black ice and ended up in a ditch. It was a scary experience for this senior and I so appreciated your help, from calling a tow truck to checking in on me quite often. The world needs more people like you. Many thanks.

BEEF Just wanted to check back in and let you all know I can’t remember what I am mad about but I thought you should know I’m mad about something. Have another day.

BOUQUET My husband had day surgery at NRGH with Dr. Palmer. A big thank you to everyone from admission to his discharge. He was very nervous, and their calming and caring attitude were wonderful.

BEEF To all the backyard dog breeders who make up ‘breed’ names in order to charge an exorbitant price. If the dog isn’t a recognized breed, then it’s a mutt.

BOUQUET To the kind-hearted landlords who have begun allowing pets, keeping families together. The rescue sites are loaded and unable to find homes, resulting in poor conditions or euthanasia. Thankful for the people who are able to help out and provide homes or training. I was so touched to see one lady online offer to foster and train a dog for free so that it could be homed. Such an amazing soul.

BEEF To the weight loss business for inconsistent, so-called ‘coaching,’ chaotic, confusing challenges/programs, unreliable, expensive product supply and the mistakes at the till. It’s gone downhill badly since their longtime employee left.

BOUQUET Thanks to the two Mikes who keep Midora and Virostko roads clear of snow. You are the neighbour champions. Your older neighbours really appreciate it.

BEEF To band students. Jazz is going to ruin your life and send you down a path of alcoholism. The genre is dangerously disrespectful. I will no longer pay my taxes now that I know it is arming the youth with devil’s music.

BOUQUET To the people along for the ride on the decluttering train, who are donating anything that they are not regularly wearing or using. The sense of satisfaction in reducing the amount of ‘stuff’ clogging us down, knowing that someone else can use that item, is so rewarding. It also clears room for the good energy to flow in and feels so freeing.

BEEF To the private school, we know what you did.

BOUQUET Thank you to the kind couple who stopped to help my husband after he had fallen in front of Dover Bay Secondary School. As it turned out he was very lucky that there was a nurse in the car. He had a very nasty head wound and she was able to bandage his head for him. I do apologize for taking so long to say thank you for you care and attention.

BEEF To the RCMP. Please publish a list of things I am allowed to steal without any charges laid. Apparently it’s a grey area and I too would like a free sandwich or snack once in a while. Groceries are expensive and I have to work for them.

BOUQUET Thank you to the young lady who helped out with my mom in front of Mark’s. She was having trouble getting in to our car and had to have a sit down My husband was thankful for the extra help as his back was out. My thanks as his wife for your attention to my mom.

BEEF Are turn signals a deletable option on certain makes and models? Signal it up, Nanaimo.

BOUQUET My husband and I are seniors who have had some medical issues recently. In the heavy snow storm we had, there was no way that we could have shovelled the snow from the driveway to our house without the kind help from our neighbours B. and J. Thank you.

BEEF To those in dark clothing who walk in traffic. Also, beef to those driving without working brake lights, turn signals, or headlights, or speed in bad road conditions.

BOUQUET To the gentleman walking his dog at night who found our sister who had fallen and called 911. We would have liked to thank you in person but you didn’t leave your name. Thank you for being a brother to our sister.

BEEF To the fitness club with no water fountain. The manager looks very unhappy and doesn’t seem to know how to greet members.

BOUQUET To all the city snow plow staff and garbage collectors who worked hard to keep things going.

BEEF Friendly beef to the friend beefer, you say you made all the plans and were always there, maybe the other side feels that they helped make plans, etc., and not all of it was you? Try to think of a two-way road instead of you did all. That may be part of the issue? I don’t know.

BOUQUET To city staff for an informative tour of the works yard on Labieux Road. Clearly the work is long overdue. The AAP controversy is a bit of a smokescreen, since it only applies to borrowing and is far, far cheaper than a referendum.

BEEF To the university for removing the sturgeons from campus before I got a chance to see the lovely big dinosaur fish in person.

BOUQUET Thanks to the neighbours of Hawthorne for the great Christmas light displays and also for the snow clearing of sidewalks and driveways.

BEEF To our city council members. They want to be remembered for doing something. After watching the news regarding the homelessness issue, they will be remembered for making Nanaimo a destination for people experiencing homelessness. Housing, drugs from the province – all of this at the expense of the taxpayer.

BOUQUET To the gentleman who walked with me down Bruce Avenue when I was a little nervous.

BEEF A supermarket in eastern Canada raised meat prices from 50 per cent off to 30 per cent off, then reverted back to 50 per cent off. We in western Canada should have the same pricing, we are also on fixed income and rent and cost of living is high.

BOUQUET To the person who is afraid to reach out to their friend, wondering if they’ve done something wrong and feeling alone. Reach out to your friend, they may perhaps be wondering the same thing about you. You’ve got this.

BEEF To the rude lady who works at the bakery. You show no happiness when a regular customer is buying many loaves of rye bread. My hands shake uncontrollably, but you cannot even place my order in the bag that I brought. With your attitude you are driving customers away. I’ve now found a new place to buy my bread and pastries.

BOUQUET Thank you to my neighbour Edie who is devoted to helping hummingbirds. During the deep freeze, she got a heater for her feeder providing hummers with accessible nourishment.

BEEF To the mobile home park. The only way to contact our management is by mail; no conversations are allowed by phone. We are only allowed to mail our rent cheques. We used to be able to drop them off. Do you call that management?

BOUQUET To the wonderful community palliative nurses who took care of Brian his last few weeks. And to the amazing support staff who worked so hard to make him comfortable. I can’t thank you enough for all your care and concern for me. There are truly angels on earth and Brian was lucky to have them.

BEEF If city council had suggested that major work needed to be done on the public works yard before the Metral Drive project, then the townspeople may have approved.

BOUQUET To the lady at Nanaimo North Town Centre who helped this senior by carrying a large package from London Drugs to my red car outside the Caledonian clinic. Your kindness is very much appreciated. I also enjoyed our conversations and your teaching the young child with you about helping others.

BEEF To the lady driving recklessly in the Ford Bronco. You cut us off in a merge lane so that you could get to the mall and when I honked you reminded me not to do that in the future as you could have been armed with more than a middle finger.

BOUQUET Thanks to the trucker who stopped for me while my custom van lay on its side. I was in a state of panic listening to all the vehicles that passed me and did nothing. On my journey rollerblading across Canada for mental illness and the bipolar community, I was treated very well by truckers, I’ve always respected truckers but now the respect is so massive.

BEEF To the City of Nanaimo for allowing all the numerous and deep potholes in the Neck Point parking lot to go unrepaired for so many years. Please fill them in.

BOUQUET I was at Save-On-Foods at Woodgrove Centre and I received a $100 gift card as a random act of kindness. I was overwhelmed.

BEEF To the person who wrote in shaming the mall for not picking up all the garbage strewn about by the bus exchange. You should have a beef with all the people in Nanaimo who can’t take the time to complete the small mundane task of placing their refuse in the proper container.

BOUQUET To Sandy at Quality Foods in Harewood, you make the most beautiful flower bouquets and you always have a friendly smile for everyone. It’s you who keeps me coming back.

BEEF To the many institutions making a nice living off humanity’s misery and poverty. You know who you are. The examples in Nanaimo are endless.

BOUQUET Thank you to Blue Flame for the very best customer service. They serviced our newer fireplace installed by another company. Finding a poor installation, they did extra repairs and came back twice. No charge for anything but our servicing. Keep them in mind when you are booking installations and maintenance.

BEEF To my selfish neighbour who only clears his road and piles the snow in front of my gate.

BOUQUET To Lifeline, the best thing we ever did. Thank you for being there when needed. Twice now you have helped save her life. I can’t thank you enough and everyone should look into your wonderful service. Thank you.

BEEF To the courthouse for leaving all of its office wing lights on almost every night and most weekends. It’s pretty wasteful for a government office. It’s time to be more conscious of the power used.

BOUQUET To Rawan’s Richies at the farmer’s market. All of her goodies I’ve tried were delicious, especially the konafa and cupcakes. Prices are good, and she is very kind. Can’t wait to pick up more next week.

BEEF To the bleeding hearts and politicians glorifying and celebrating social housing. It will never be enough. When you have been sitting your whole life you forget how to stand.

BOUQUET To the staff and security guards at Save-on-Foods Brooks Landing. Thank you for always being helpful and treating your customers with respect and kindness.

BEEF To dangerous, uncivilized Nanaimo drivers who tailgate, speed, impatiently honk horns, give rude gestures, don’t use signals, provoke road rage, etc. In general the driving culture here is much worse than the mainland.
