ALMAS

WILLIAM STANLEY

December 8, 1925 ~ December 19, 2010

Stan passed away December 19th in Palliative Care, Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta to Bill & Alice Almas (deceased). They lived and ran a fish camp on the west coast of Vancouver Island, then moved to Vancouver for his schooling. At age 15, he got his first of 7 fishing boats, moved up the coast to Egmont, doing longline, gillnet, seine, and trolling for over 60 years. He met his wife, Nina of 64 years, in Pender Harbour and moved to Nanaimo in 1952. He owned a taxi business to fill in the winters, got in to skiing on Arrowsmith Mt., ran the machinery and chairlift, and afterwards became a ski instructor on Forbidden Plateau. He really enjoyed our trips gold panning at Likely and the Yukon.

Stan was a generous and helpful man and will be lovingly missed by his wife, Nina; daughter, Leeann; sons: Tim (Tevis) and Steven; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and friends. He’s always in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Care, Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
