Wayne Jimmy Wagar

April 3, 1952 - April 19, 2017

Wayne Jimmy Wagar, age 65, of Nanaimo, British Columbia, passed away on April 19, 2017 after losing his battle to Cancer.

A Celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday May 6, 2017 at The German Hall at 71 Caledonia Avenue in Nanaimo, BC. Reverend Sally Bullas of Brechin United Church will be officiating. Distribution of ashes will be held by a private ceremony in days following the memorial service.

Wayne was born in Edmonton, Alberta on April 3, 1952.

Wayne was married to William James (Billy) Hackett on October 10, 2016.

Wayne worked in general construction and recently as a house painter for Home Pro Painting for approximately six years. He enjoyed hunting and ran a trap-line years ago, often saying he’d like to live “in the bush”. Wayne was a “tinkerer” and was always picking up various things to fix. For approximately the last twenty years he was an avid bottle collector, owning and trading thousands of old bottles he uncovered around the island.

Wayne is survived by his spouse William (Billy) James Hackett, son Christopher Wayne Wagar of Nanaimo, son Steven Wagar (Shona Powell) and grandson Jaxon of Edmonton, Granddaughter Danielle Wagar of Nanaimo, Mother Alice McCallum of Edmonton, Brother Arthur Orval Henry Wagar of Belize, Sister Rowena Gail Dixon (nee Wagar) of Edmonton, Brother Terry Lee Wagar of Nanaimo, and several nieces and nephews from both BC and Alberta.

Wayne is preceded in death by his father James Raymond Wagar in 2000 and Brother Gary Raymond Wagar in 2007.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Nanaimo Community Hospice at 1080 St. George Cres., Nanaimo BC V9S 1X1. The family of Wayne Jimmy Wagar wishes to thank the very compassionate and caring staff and volunteers at the Nanaimo Community Hospice, especially Jennifer Keane; as well as the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Palliative Unit, especially Dr. Robin Love, for all the support, kindness and comfort you provided to Wayne and members of our family.
