VICTOR LEROY WILSON

WILSON,Victor Leroy

Vic passed away suddenly at his home in Nanaimo on December 3, 2006. Vic lived bravely with heart and kidney complications but did not dwell on his illnesses, but rather chose to live life to the fullest. He took great joy in continuing to paint, and after moving to the West Coast from Regina in 2001, added BC scenery to many of his paintings. Vic also continued to travel and made trips to Hawaii, Australia and Saskatchewan.

Vic was born in Regina October 21, 1938, the eighth son to Earl and Abigail Wilson. After high school he attended the Alberta College of Art and obtained a General Art diploma. Vic received scholarships to attend Emma Lake Art School where he studied under Roy Kiyooka and Ken Lochhead, and later received his Bachelor of Education degree. His teaching career was at Balfour Collegiate where he became Head of the Art Department. Vic continued painting and became a member and executive of the Federation of Canadian Artists and member of Art 10 in Nanaimo.

Vic’s other interests were a love of birds and he spent many hours in his living room with his bird books identifying different species of birds at the feeders. His other interests were the colors and fragrances of flowers. Vic also enjoyed studying the beauty of mountains, forests and sunsets for his paintings. Friends and family of Vic’s were blessed by his gentle nature and his wonderful sense of humor.

Predeceased by his first wife Hazel and five of his brothers, Vic is survived by his cherished wife Marilyn; daughters Michelle (John) and granddaughter Abigail, Joelle (Mark) and grandson Roan, brothers Cecil and Del; and extended family Collin and Monica Norris; Karen and Michael Wilke, Ali, Ben and Mattea; Dean and Lorie Norris, Kaleigh and Dawson; numerous nieces and nephews, and sisters and brothers-in law.

A celebration of Vic’s life was held at Trinity United Church, 6234 Spartan Road, Saturday, December 9 at 2:30 pm. If desired, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. A memorial service and internment will be held in Regina at a later date.
