Born May 10, 1919 in Bristol, England, passed away peacefully at Malaspina Gardens on March 23, 2004. Vera was predeceased by her husband John William James Thomson in 1983. Vera is survived by 3 sons Doug (Denise), Rick (D’Arcy), & John (Bernie); 2 grandchildren Ryan & Cara; sister Barb in England, and many other friends. In Vera’s early married life with her daring young RAF serviceman John, she ran a fish shop in England. Vera and John along with their young son left Fraserburgh, Scotland in 1964 to settle in Nanaimo on Nicol St. and shortly afterwards had two more little boys. Vera was a dedicated employee at the original Eaton’s downtown for 30 years and thousands of happy customers enjoyed her service for all that time. Vera could not walk down the streets without someone saying hello. Vera belonged to many prestigious and important organizations, she was held in great esteem and respect by Branch 10 Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Vera worked hard for the poppy fund and was a past president of Branch 10 and was also an honorable member of Branch 256. Vera was a past Matron of the Eastern Star. A member of the Zora Club, she was a volunteer at Dufferin Place, NRGH and The Canadian Cancer Society. She helped many and will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo on Friday, April 2, 2004 at 12:30pm. Interment to follow at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar, BC. The Thomson family would like to thank all the wonderful people who made Vera’s life comfortable.
