STANLEY ARTHUR THOMAS

Stan was born on August 3, 1927. He passed away on March 20, 2011 in Nanaimo after a long struggle with dementia. Stan was born in Nanaimo, BC to Olga and Arthur Thomas and spent his younger years with his family in Qualicum. The family moved to Nanaimo where Stan completed his schooling. Stan married his wife Helen in 1952 and they settled in Nanaimo to start their family. Stan served with the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers during the war. He was with Finning Tractor for 31 years and worked in Prince Rupert and Prince George before moving back to Nanaimo. He also worked for Millstream Timber for a time. Stan loved the outdoors and spent many hours fishing local rivers and the salt chuck. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and walking on the beach with his dogs. He is survived by his wife Helen; sons Gregory (Christine) and Terence (Shelley); daughters Allison, Shelley (Scott) and Shannon (Byron); five grandsons, Courtian, Christopher, Russel, Liam, Parker; and his sister Audrey (Ed) Bayley.

There will be a family service in March. Please join us for a celebration of his life at the beach when the weather gets warmer. We would like to thank Wexford Creek for their very compassionate care. Thank you to Barbara and the ladies from We Care who made his days more enjoyable. A special thanks to Helmar, Ron and Angus for their loyal friendship. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia.
