Winnie passed away peacefully at Kiwanis Lodge on Monday, June 9, 2008, with her family around her in her final days. She was predeceased by her loving husband Lawrence in June 1994, also by brothers Walter, Harry, Robert, William and daughter-in-law Faere.
She leaves to mourn her sister Isabella Southern, daughter Sharon (Larry Radu), son Robert (Donita), grandchildren Tanya Radu, Natasha (Doug Reitan), Rebecca (James Toye), John Houghton, Kelly (Colin Duncanson), Dr. Kristin Houghton, Adam Houghton (Kim), great-grandchildren Lexus, Janessa, Branden, and Levi Toye, Mackenzie and Ashley Reitan, Amelia and Karina Duncanson, and Elliot Houghton, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Winnie was born and raised in Nanaimo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and the little ones gave her great joy, she always lit up when she saw them. She was an avid 5 pin bowler and won many trophies. She loved to cook, knit and crochet. She continued her daily walks for as long as she could, and she loved going out with her ladies group that she had known for many years. She was a member of the Orange Lily Lodge and the Woman’s Benefit Association many years ago.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, and her kind and gentle way. Special thanks to Dr. Rogers and the wonderful staff at Kiwanis Lodge for their loving care and compassion.
