It is with sadness that the family said goodbye to a beautiful spirited father, brother, grandfather and wonderful friend to all who knew him. Roy never lost his smile or his sense of humor. His passion for life infectious…

Predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Lorna Jeanne (Shields) in 1993 and brother, Lee Saunders. He is survived by his daughter, Judy St. Jean (Paul) Nanaimo and sons: Ken (Julia) Nanaimo and Glen (Casey), Terrace; brothers: Charlie (Marie), Calgary AB, Herb

(Evelyn), Port McNeill and Don (Mabel), Nanaimo; sisters: Jeanne Shaw, Calgary AB, Hazel Young (Howard), Red Deer AB and Margaret Kinley, Calgary AB as well as his 6 grandchildren: Sean St.Jean (Erin),Vernon BC, Nicole Tang (Dr. David) Halifax NS, Domonique St. Jean, Victoria BC, Chad Saunders, Jamey Saunders, Mark Saunders (Megan) and many wonderful great grandchildren: Anisha, Gavin & Caleb Tang, Halifax, NS and Noah & Jacob St. Jean, Vernon, BC.

Born in Lacombe AB, Roy moved to BC at age 19 where he met his wife and built a successful logging business, R.W. Saunders & Sons, still operating today after 62 years. Roy loved fishing, golfing and of course the logging industry. He was also a member of the Rotary since 1967 and a Paul Harris Fellow.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all who cared for Roy during his final years: Martin Terris and Gordon Grant who helped to make sure Roy’s latter years were so full, and the exceptional staff at Dover House whose compassionate care went above and beyond.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1 Newcastle Avenue,

Nanaimo, BC, on Friday, February 19th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice will be appreciated.
