COTTELL Roy (Ernest)

January 16, 1917~November 17, 2008

At the age of 91 yrs., Roy passed away peacefully, in Dufferin Place - where he had received the best of care. Roy had been active in Nanaimo Theatre Group and Malaspina Choir and had served in the Reserves.

Roy was predeceased by his parents Ernie and Nellie, an infant brother Bertie, and infant son Daniel; sisters Edith Harris, Betty Wright and June Chadwick.

He is survived by Renie, his loving wife of 68 yrs.; sons Philip (Donna M.), Murray (Donna L.) and Allen; daughters Cathy VanBiert (Tony), April Nyholt (Paul).

Granddaughters: Deanna and Sylvia, Josie, Chris and Stephanie; Linda and Corie, and Melissa; grandsons Mark & Michael Wall, and Mikel Nyholt.

Great grandchildren: Shane, Lexi, Aislinn, Julia and Emily. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews... and many friends.

Born in Chilliwack, B.C., Roy first worked as a steam engineer logging for MacMillan & Bloedel in the 30’s. In the 40’s he worked as a machinist for Ogden Shops in Calgary, AB. He ranched for a few years in the 50’s near Bowden, AB– before returning to B.C., where he was an engineer at the Crofton Mill. In the mid 60’s, he worked at NRGH in Nanaimo, B.C., and then at Brannen Lake until his retirement.

Roy and Renie lived for many years on a ten acre farm in Cassidy, later moving to Deerwood Place Estates in Nanaimo.

A Memorial Service will be held at First Memorial - 1720 Bowen Rd., on Saturday, Nov. 29th, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. - Jim Hawkins of the Church of Christ officiating.
