JONES, Rose
(nee Gomerich) died peacefully in her home on August 20, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. Rose is survived by her husband Tom, and her children: Stephen, Michael (Shawnnee), Deanna (Roger), Patricia and Doug Smith (Janet). Rose is also survived by sisters Mary Blazina (Joe), Claire Gomerich (George), brothers: John Gomerich (Norma) and Buddy McGrade (Maxine), beloved grandchildren: Jacob, Cassidy, Brennan, Jordon and Shannon. Rose will also be dearly missed by her numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Born in South Wellington on April 1, 1936 on the Gomerich Farm, Rose grew up in Bradner and returned to Nanaimo in 1953. She graduated from NDSS and enjoyed working for the Vancouver Police Department and CPR Telegraphs before marrying Tom in 1960. Beyond Rose’s primary role as mother and wife, she also touched many lives through her community and political involvement, as well as through her second career as a health care aid. Prayers will be held 7 PM on Friday, August 26 at Sands Funeral Chapel. Mass will be at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church at 10 AM, Saturday, August 27, followed by a reception at 12 PM, Bowen Park Auditorium, 500 Bowen Road. All welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations will be received with gratitude by the Nanaimo Hospice Society. Our family wishes to extend our sincere and heartfelt appreciation to all of those who have supported us, and continue to support us, during this difficult time.
