February 4, 1927 - June 22, 2017
Born In Vancouver and raised on Cortez Island.
Rough and tough on the outside but with a heart
of gold. Always an adventurer, happiest in the
forest or on the water. He fished all over the world,
logged up and down the coast, log salvaged and ran
a patrol boat for Fisheries Canada for many years.
Oh, the stories he could tell, many of which made
their way into a book, “Destination Cortez Island.”
Predeceased by his mother Betty, stepfather Dick
and youngest daughter Heather. Survived by his wife
Cathy of 67+ years, daughter Pam ( Ken) Bellingham,
grandchildren Matt, Chantelle and Chelsea, grandson
Kaurie Godkin (Ashley),great grandchildren Marlena
and Madyson and their baby on the way, grandson
Jamie Godkin (Chelsea) and great grandson James,
and granddaughter Rachael. A proud family man,
storyteller, a mean accordion player, whiz “chef” with
a cast iron frying pan, fierce jive partner, and artistic
bird house builder, whose “houses” found homes all
over the world ! He chose his time and left on his own
terms. We will all miss you.
No service by his request, instead a family gathering
to celebrate his remarkable life at a later date.
