Robert Douglas Strachan was born in Powell River, B.C. in 1937 and spent his youth there and in Nanaimo. Bob passed away in Nanaimo on September 19, 2010 after a brief illness. Predeceased by his father, Robert Martin Strachan in 1981, he was much loved and will be greatly missed by his son Bobby and wife Cari and grandsons James and Brendan of Wright City, Missouri; by his mother, Anne, at Nanaimo Seniors Village; sister Lorraine Williams (Gary) of Airdrie, AB, nieces Sharon and Brenda and their families; brother Ken Strachan (Barbara) of Qualicum Beach, and nephews Bradley, Brian and Ian and their families.
Bob had a free and independent spirit which guided him on his journey through life. He was a voracious reader, had a curiosity second-to-none and was always willing to share his vast knowledge and opinions. Playing pool at a very high level was his avocation for many years. Known for his kindness and integrity, he was loved and respected by a legion of friends and colleagues in the St. Louis, Missouri area as well as Calgary where he had resided for the past 5 years prior to moving to Nanaimo in May.
