Chase, Robert (Bob)
Born on April 5, 1921 passed away at Nanaimo General Hospital on April 10, 2003. Predeceased by his loving wife Helen. Bob will be sadly missed by his sons Phil (Heather), Russ(Carol); grandchildren Kevin, Derek, Shannon (Ron), Sharlane (David) and Shaun; great granddaughters Courtney, Rachel and Anna Helene. Close relatives Bert, Margot, Verne, Madeleine, Paul and Rae (deceased), their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. As well as the many life long friends he made along the way. Bob had an interesting and varied life starting on a farm in Alberta before “riding the rails” to Vancouver. He joined the army during WW2. After the war ended he moved to Bella Coola to pursue a logging career. Bob eventually came to Nanaimo where he worked for West Coast Freight and ultimately the Nanaimo Harbour Commission. Bob and Helen’s love for the Nanaimo waterfront inspired the dedication of a bench overlooking Swy-a-lana where his name will be added next to Helen’s. A special thank you to Dr. Beerman and the nurses, they are truly a credit to their profession. A small family gathering will be held at a later date at Bob’s request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C.
