P/O DOUGLAS A. THICKE
Doug grew up in Saltair and graduated from Ladysmith high school, then attended U.B.C. where in second year he enlisted in the R.C.A.F.
Doug was piloting a Halifax bomber from R.C.A.F. Stn. Croft with 434 Squadron “The Bluenose” boys when their bomber was attacked by a night fighter on March 18 1944, and set them on fire. The plane crashed 30 miles from Croft and all on board perished. The crew are buried at Harrogate in Yorkshire, England in R.A.F. cemetery.
Always remembered by his pals Lt. (Ret.) Doug McFadden and F/O (Ret.) Tom Michael.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning we remember them.
