Dr. Patricia Anne (Pat) Radcliffe (nee Gardiner) of Nanaimo BC, went home to her Lord on May 6, 2017 at age 89. Predeceased by her beloved husband Roland in 1999, she leaves behind their 3 children, Charles (Marisa) of Nanaimo, Patty (Mark Palmer) of Port Alberni and Tom (Hilary Farmer) of Vancouver, and 6 adult grandchildren: Charles Radcliffe (Kirsten Harrison), Ross Radcliffe, Erin Palmer (Jordan Krog), Shannon Palmer (Luke McCreary), Alex Radcliffe and Tim Radcliffe, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Born September 22, 1927 in Vancouver BC, Pat attended UBC and then Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. In 1950 she married Rolly; they graduated from Queen’s medical school, Class of 1953. Following an internship in Vancouver they completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Cleveland Clinic. In 1960 they moved to Nanaimo where they raised their family and practiced medicine until 1986.

In addition to a busy family life and medical practice, Pat found time to be involved in the University Women’s Club, the Kiwanis Ladies Auxiliary, the Nanaimo Hospital Board and later the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation. She was a founding member of the Prayer Book Society of Canada on Vancouver Island and a long-time member of St Paul’s Anglican Church, serving on the Altar Guild and other committees. Over the years, Pat’s many adventures included trips on their sailboat and traveling around North America in a camper van. She also enjoyed opera, gardening and knitting.

All are welcome to the funeral service for Pat, a celebration of a life well lived, taking place at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 100 Chapel St, Nanaimo BC on Saturday May 20 at 1 pm, Venerable Brian Evans officiating.

Pat’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Astoria, Origin at Longwood, for the wonderful care they provided Mom over the past 2 years, allowing her to live with dignity as her health was failing.
