Barrass, Norman
August 31, 1914 ~ July 1, 2010
Norm passed away peacefully at NRGH, aged 95 years, on July 1, 2010. Born in, and a lifelong resident of Nanaimo, the son of George Barrass & Agnes Barrass, nee Baker. Norm was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie nee Furk; his brother, George (Florence); sister-in-law, Dorothy Manzer (Doug); brother-in-law, Don Furk (Agnes); and sister-in-law, Dorothy Furk. He is survived by his sisters: Dorothy Hayden (Bob) of Tacoma Wash, and Geraldine Mitchell (Bill) of Portland Ore.; and brother-in-law Stuart Furk. Norm had numerous cousins, as well as nieces and nephews.
Norm enlisted in the army during WWII and was stationed in Nanaimo at the Military Hospital. He was also a member of the Nanaimo Yacht Club in his younger days. Norm worked at the Malaspina Hotel as a cook, and later owned his own butcher shop before going to work at Harmac, where he retired in 1979. He and Marge enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and RVing extensively in their retirement. Norm will be fondly remembered by his many friends, especially the Tuesday morning coffee group. No service at his request.
