Norma Hodgson

1930-2010

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Norma Hodgson (nee Geidt).  She passed away peacefully on Monday July 5, 2010 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital after a prolonged battle with kidney disease. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Hodgson; children: Randy and Nancy Rheja; grandchildren: Tashalla, Carmanah, Tiana and Jimmy; sister, Doreen Campbell; and her brother, Doug Geidt.  Born in Courtenay, Norma left to attend Nursing school directly after high school.  She graduated from Royal Columbian Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1952.  She continued to meet, annually, with her classmates these last 58 years; they had many wonderful times together.

Norma was very active in her community, including the Anglican Church Ladies Group, Lantzville OAP, and the Red Hats Association. She was an ardent bridge player, doing everything from playing duplicate to teaching newcomers.  She loved the opera and symphony, and was a member of the Nanaimo Port Theatre.  She learned to play golf and spent many years golfing and square-dancing with Jim.  They continued their retirement with trips to Yuma and visiting their grandchildren. Pinochle, domino’s, and card games rounded out some of Norma’s fun activities with her friends.  She volunteered at the church bazaar, working until her feet ached!  She baked 1000’s of cookies and canned 1000’s of pints of fruit for her children and grandchildren. Norma exemplified empathy and caring, and built very strong, long-lasting relationships. She is much loved by her friends and family and will be missed beyond measure.

We will never forget you Norma.
