JORGENSEN, Niels - passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer, on June 1, at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with his wife at his side.
Niels was predeceased by his first wife Lilian and leaves sons Mark, Steven (Patricia) and Kenneth. Survived by his second wife, Gwyneth, and her daughters Cerylan (Ivan), Bronwen (Gordon) and grandchildren Ryan, Matthew, Megan and Abiona.
Niels was born in Denmark on a farm named "Velleslund". After serving in the Danish Army, he emigrated to Canada in 1961. He worked for a short time at Bayly Engineering in Ajax, Ontario, then for 28 years with IBM, Toronto. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Niels moved from engineering into information development before retiring in 1993 to Vancouver Island. Niels was President and member of the Vancouver Island Danish Canadian Club, Nanaimo Computer Club, Bowen Seniors Computer Club, and the Mid-Island Welsh Association. He also edited three Heritage Books for the Federation of Danish Associations in Canada.
Niels will be lovingly remembered not only by his family, but by the many friends and associates whose lives he touched. His was a life of quiet devotion, patience and practicality. Niels was a generous man with a kind disposition and a selfless regard for others. Those who crossed his path were truly blessed as he enriched their lives. There will be no service and interment will take place in Ontario. Donations may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, Nanaimo.
