Nick went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2005 at Dufferin Place, with his family by his side. He leaves behind his wife Jean of 56 years, his daughter Christine (James) Yakiwchuk and grandchildren James Yakiwchuk Jr. of Nanaimo and Jennifer (Andreas) Grammenz of Toronto. The family wishes to extend it’s gratitude to Sharon and staff of Malaspina Gardens and Carol, Val and staff of Dufferin Place for their care and compassion in taking care of Nick. Nick was a WW2 Veteran and served in the Italian Campaign and the liberation of Holland. After the war Nick worked in the forest industry in northern Saskatchewan where he met and married Jean Updike. In the early 50’s Nick moved his family to B.C. where he worked in the forest industry in Prince George, Giscome and later Leo Creek. Nick and Jean were long time Salvation Army Soldiers and worked for many years at the Harbour Light Centre in Prince George. In 1989 Nick and Jean retired to Nanaimo where Nick was involved with various seniors’ organizations and his Church. There will be no funeral or memorial service by Nick’s request.
