On May 10, 2010, at the age of 56, Molly Shiu Ying Lee passed away peacefully at her home in Cedar amongst her family after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Molly never failed to put everyone else’s needs ahead of her own, even in the midst of her illness. Her strength of will helped carry us all through the struggles of the past two years. She was a wonderful wife, an inspiring mother, and a playful and giving grandmother. She was devoted to her parents and siblings and was a truly loyal friend.
Her smile and laughter were as vibrant as her beautifully expansive garden; her desire for an unending supply of grandchildren as subtle as a sledgehammer. When we think of her, we’ll remember her walking on the beach, hand-in-hand with her grandkids; raising a glass of wine to toast a good meal; kneeling on the ground with her hands in the dirt, smiling up into the sun.
Thank you for always being there for us, Mom, and letting us be there for you. You will always be in our hearts and we are so lucky to have had you in our lives.
Molly is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Sonny; her children: Tina (Tom) and Mike (Sam); her grandchildren: Caleb, Maya and Hayley; her siblings: Kathy, Danny, Will, Margaret, and Suzie; and her parents: Ken and Sau Wong Mah.
The family would like to send their deepest gratitude to everyone who helped care for Molly, especially to the Home Care Nurses and the doctors and nurses of the NRGH Palliative Care Unit. We could not have done without their dedicated and compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Sands Funeral Chapel located, 1 Newcastle Ave, Nanaimo, BC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation or to the BC Cancer Foundation for Nanaimo would be greatly appreciated.
