MCINNIS, Maurice

It is with great regret that family and friends announce the passing of Maurice Donald Peter McInnis September 23, 2008.

"Mickey" was born on August 17th, 1923 in Victoria, BC to Peter and Lottie McInnis (Stevens). Mickey's early years were spent living in Victoria with his mother. He attended St. Louis College and had many stories relating to his "school years". His summers and holidays were spent with his father in Ladysmith. He worked for Comox Logging out of Copper Canyon where he earned the title "Acrobatic of the Woods". In 1943 he, like many of his generation joined the army and spent the next few years serving in Jamaica.

After serving in the war, he returned to Victoria, working at the Empress Hotel as an engineer in the steam plant. In 1954 he married his true love Natalie (Belobaba) who he was able to share many cherished years with. It was also during this time he was introduced to another great love, salmon fishing.

Mickey took a job at BC Forest Products, Crofton Division and in 1966 moved his wife and 3 children to Ladysmith where he lived in the family home until a few months ago. In July 2008 he relocated to Kelowna where he resided at Sun Pointe Village until his death.

Maurice is survived by his cousin Laura (Bell) of Coquitlam, sons Peter and Lance, daughter Penny (David) Chapman of Kelowna, granddaughters Melanie, Haley, and Selena, grandson Jordan, and great-grandchildren Bre-Anna, Lucas, Autumn, and Jordan.

Maurice was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ladysmith branch, an organization from which he received a great deal of support and fellowship. His family wish to recognize Dr. Julien Lisinski for the endless support he has provided to both Maurice and Natalie over the years as well as Dr. Michael Koss who treated Maurice while residing in Kelowna.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, October 2nd at 1 pm at the Eagle's Hall in Ladysmith with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
