MARY DEBORAH HEWITT

February 14, 2010

HEWITT, Mary Deborah (née Lavallée)

Born 1922 in Québec City, passed away peacefully under the loving and compassionate care of the staff of Malaspina Gardens in Nanaimo BC, February 14, 2010.

As a young adult, Mary moved from Québec to Montreal where she taught 7 years before marrying Reverend William Charles Hewitt and traveling the next half-century yoked together in Christian service, grace and hospitality. When Mary left teaching in Toronto, she and Bill enjoyed 5 years in a century-old home in Uxbridge, ON and a further 5 year Maritime adventure in Halifax, before settling in Nanaimo, BC in 1992. Widowed the following year, Mary subsequently lived out her days enjoying crafts, reading and savoring the serene beauty of her surroundings among friends and family.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, William Charles Hewitt, and her dear niece Catherine Louise Fulton, Mary will forever be cherished in memory by her three loving sisters: Helen (late Ben) Laurie, Jean (Guy) Wilkins and Enid (late Charles) Fulton, and will always be remembered as a beautiful, loving and devoted mother by: John (Leanne) of Phoenix AZ, Joanne (Jim) Parsons of Buffalo NY and Peter (Bob) of Nanaimo BC. Also grieving the passing of their beloved Grandma are: Angela Hewitt Schueller (Rob), Dallas Hewitt (Amber), Benjamin and Nathaniel Parsons, Julie, Alexi and Liam Hewitt. Mary touched the lives of countless friends who were blessed to know her good humour, her warm and ready smile and her infinite generosity.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held in Québec in July. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (www.pwrdf.org)
