RADU Mary Annabelle

(nee Daye)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary on February 27, 2007 at the age of 89. Mary was born in Jaffery, B.C., raised in Northfield and South Wellington, married April 26, 1941 and moved to Lantzville. John and Mary have been residents of Nanaimo since 1955. During World War II, Mary worked in the Victoria Shipyards as a carpenter’s helper and a locksmith’s helper, while John was in the Navy. Later Mary worked in various positions for the T Eaton Co., in Nanaimo. She was an avid outdoors woman who enjoyed camping, traveling, and picking wild blackberries. We will all miss her delicious blackberry pies. She had a great love of cats and adopted several from the neighbourhood.

Mary had a debilitating stroke three years ago and is now no longer suffering. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind and gentle lady.

Mary is survived by her loving husband John Radu, her only newphew, Ted Hamilton (Diane) North Vancouver, grand newphew, Tyler Hamilton North Vancouver, John’s niece, Dee Dee Hodgson (Jim) Nanaimo, John’s nephew’s Wayne and Larry Radu, Nanaimo, numerous nieces and nephews, long time best friend Marilyn Sharman, Parksville, and caring and helpful neighbour, Charlene Corrin and her family.

Mary’s family and friends would like to express their appreciation for the dedication and kindness of Dufferin Place caregivers.

Mary is gone; gone to a better place; gone from us; gone, but never forgotten, always remembered. Till we meet again.

At Mary’s request there will be no service. If you wish, donations can be made to the SPCA.
