Marjorie Kathleen (Marnie) Mitchell
Born on June 8, 1923 in Calgary, Alberta. Marnie passed away on June 10, 2010 in Nanaimo, B.C. at the age of 87. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ronald Mitchell, in 2006. She is survived by her two sons: Michael (Christine) of Nanaimo and Barry (Marlene) of Vancouver; her sister, Barbara Cleall of Edmonton; her grandchildren: Ryan (Sheila) of Nanaimo, Erin (Bruce) of New Brunswick and Christopher (Kristine) of New Westminster; her two great grandchildren: Josh and Delaney; and also niece, Barbara Hoar and nephews: Ken, Ben, Chris and Michael Cleall, all of Alberta.
Marnie was born in Calgary but grew up in Mill Bay where her Mom was a teacher at the children’s hospital. Marnie and her sister Barb enjoyed playing on the beach and going fishing in their rowboat. In their retirement years, Ron and Marnie enjoyed going to Mill Bay for picnics, where Marnie had many happy childhood memories. The family later moved to Victoria so the girls could attend high school. This is where Marnie met Ron, while playing tennis, and they married and had their family.
While the boys were in elementary school they moved to Nanaimo making new friends in their Churchill Avenue neighbourhood. Marnie spent most of this time as a stay at home Mom but did work as an admittance clerk at the hospital and at Sears. After Ron’s retirement they returned to Victoria where they had kept many friends from the early days. Since Ron’s death Marnie has been at the Nanaimo Seniors Village. The family is deeply grateful to the staff at NSV for their kindness and care of Marnie during her time there. It is very much appreciated.
