Smith, Marjorie Frances

February 14, 1922 ~ May 28, 2008

Long time Nanaimo resident Marjorie Frances Smith passed away peacefully at Harmony House in Nanaimo, the evening of May 28, 2008.

Marjorie was the eldest of five and was born in Vancouver, B.C., to George Dorman Sr., and Gertrude Bridget Marie Dorman (O’Reilly). The family moved to Nanaimo in 1931.

Marjorie was predeceased by her parents in 1972 and 1983, by her husband Nicholas George Smith in 1999, and her youngest brother Reginald in 2006.

She is survived by her loving sister Dorothy Eusanio, brothers George Dorman and Fred Dorman and their families. “Auntie Marge” was loved by her many nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was a genuine and compassionate person who always put the needs of family and friends before herself, even while dealing with her own health problems. She was an avid bridge player, and enjoyed hosting and participating with her friends and family.

Marjorie’s loyalty was evident also in her devotion to the work place. After completing her bookkeeping courses in the 1940’s, she started on her first job at Ryan Wholesale Company in Nanaimo. After 44 years of service, she retired at Management level. Ryan’s Wholesale was also where she met her husband Nick. Together she and Nick had a wonderful life together, and enjoyed their cabin at Cameron Lake where they entertained many guests every year from spring to late fall. It was there at the lake that she enjoyed many happy times with her niece Sandy McShane (Verne) and their beautiful family Russell, Sarah, Katie, Bernadette, and Quinton.

The family would like to sincerely thank the loving, caring ANGELS at Harmony House. Your special care of this special person was very much appreciated.

Service for Marjorie Smith will be held Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church, 301 Machleary Street, Nanaimo, B.C. A “Tribute and Farewell” for Marjorie will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Nanaimo Yacht Club.
