Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 1st, 2009 in the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC at the age of 83 years. Born in Utrecht, Netherlands on August 6th, 1925. Predeceased by her son Alan in 1947 and husband Doug in 1986. Survived by her partner Bob Watson; daughters: Carol (Murray Cherkas), Gwynneth Ray (Les), Sandy Bell (Roman), and Marjorie (Philip Henderson); grandchildren: Monique, Christopher, Andrew, Keith, Jessica, and Samantha; and great-grandchildren: Elijah, Loki, and Mikyla. Maria was a Dutch war bride, and was known by her friends as Inca, she was considered the Island's best physiotherapist, and spent her entire working career helping people. Maria was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her memory will be cherished in the hearts of all those lives she touched. Special thanks to the doctors and staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital CCU.

An open house will be held in her memory on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 between 4:00 and 7:00 pm at #10 - 5150 Christie Road, Ladysmith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Inca's memory to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation #107 - 1001 Cloverdale Avenue, Victoria, BC, V8X 4C9.
