Mabel Irene Marshall, passed into the presence of her Lord on November 11, 2017 in Sidney, BC. 

Irene was born in the family home in Coultervale, MB on November 13, 1920, the youngest child and only daughter of Henry and Mabel Downey.

Irene is survived by her children Diane Irene (Robert) Tyler, Patricia Anne (George) Junghans and Kenneth Victor (Catherine), nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. 

Irene was preceded by her husband of 63 years, Victor Marshall, her parents and five older brothers, Archie, Arnold, Lewis, Royden and Leighton Downey and their spouses.   

Irene married Victor Marshall on January 8, 1943 in Coultervale, MB and lived in Victoria and Nanaimo, BC and Kingston, ON where Victor was stationed in the army until his deployment in Dec 1943. During the war years, Irene worked for the war effort, as a stenographer. After WWII, Irene and Victor lived in Ninette, Brandon, Wawanesa, Red Deer and Nanaimo.   

Music was always an important part of Irene's life and from a young age she played the piano at church. As an accomplished pianist she accompanied many vocalists, choirs, and musicians instilling the love of music in her children. Irene loved to entertain in their home as well as socialize.  Her creative ability and loving kindness will always be remembered.  

Irene's family would like to thank the staff at Sluggett House and Sidney Care Home for the love they showed her and excellent care she received. 

A celebration of life for Irene will be held Saturday, November 25, 2 pm at Nanaimo Nazarene Church, 2150 Departure Bay Rd, Nanaimo, BC.
