Forever in our Hearts

WELLS, Laura Ann

November 3, 1912 ~ June 2, 2010

Laura passed away peacefully at Wexford Creek seniors home in Nanaimo, June 2, 2010, at the age of 97. She will be greatly missed by her daughter-in-law, Betty; grandchildren: Mike, Lisa, Colin, Darlene, Mark, Shawn and great grandchildren. Nanny was born in Grand John, Nfld., growing up in Belleoram where she came from a long line of fishermen. She met and married her husband, Aubrey there in 1936. He was taken from her in 1944, on a naval ship during World War II. Left to raise her sons on her own in hard times, she moved to Nova Scotia then to B.C. She settled in Nanaimo in 1973, where she lived in her house on Chelsea St. until age 92. Although Laura never learned to drive, she attended Sunday services regularly and loved to travel in her later years. She travelled to Wales, where her husband was buried, Australia, the States, and many times back home. She is predeceased by her husband, Aubrey (1944); both her sons, Joseph (2001), George (2009) and grandson Joey in 1975. Laura will be laid to rest by her family at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, with her son George. Thank you to Wexford Creek, Unit 1, for taking care of our grandma.
