Kathleen Mary MERCER

October 30, 2008

MERCER, Kathleen Mary (Kathy)

(Nee Binion)

February 7, 1960 - October 30, 2008

On Thursday evening, after a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer (G.I.S.T.), Kathy passed away peacefully in her own home. As the youngest of four girls, she was born in Duncan to parents Webster and Margaret Binion. After Island life saw her grow into a vibrant and confident young woman, she set out to BCIT where she studied marketing and found the love of her life. Steve and Kathy were married on October 23, 1982 and began their journey together in Powell River, BC, where Kathy became a much-loved second daughter to her In-laws Helen and Charlie Mercer. With children Danielle and Sean, they soon made Ladysmith their home. Kathy found her niche at the local Royal Bank, sharing her compassion and love for helping others. She loved people; she loved spending quality time with her family. Kathy golfed, bowled, and volunteered in the community, and was always up for a board game. Quick-witted and incredibly lucky, it's not a surprise that she often won. She embraced new experiences as well as old traditions, and knowing life to be short, she made the most of her later years by traveling with friends and loved ones on wondrous trips to Paris, the Mayan Riviera, the Greek Isles, Baha Peninsula, and Italy. Kathy will always be loved by her husband Steve, her daughter Danielle, and son Sean, her father Webster and mother Margaret, Steve's parents Helen and Charlie, her sisters Verna Kimmerly, Valerie Sanderson, Maureen Doyle, and is remembered by many other close friends and family. A celebration of Kathy's life will be held on Friday, November 7th, 2008 at the Ladysmith Eagle's Hall from 1pm - 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
