TICKLE, Katherine Ruth
(formerly Wilson)
Born May 12, 1912 to Bertha and Ezra Casselman in Emerson, Manitoba, Ruth passed peacefully Tuesday, September 30, 2008. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, friend and mentor.
She is survived by her daughters Susan Wilson and Linda Nobes, her grandchildren Bill Bonneau and Yavanna Arnold, Grandson-in-law Tyson Schroeter, great-grandchildren William, Jade and Collin Bonneau, Cody Schroeter, step-grandchildren Sandra and Tamera Arnold, and step-great-grandchildren Jordana and Jerod Cunningham as well as grand and great-grand nieces and nephews and extended family members, Myra Thomson, Marilyn McTavish and Anne LeBeau.
A science graduate of the University of Manitoba in 1933, she went on to teach Home-Economics in B.C. schools. Ruth covered many miles and left lasting impressions on many people. In her later years, she demonstrated what older persons are capable of accomplishing when they are involved and committed to their communities.
Ruth was nominated for the B.C. Senior’s Award in 1993 and in 1997 received the Governor General of Canada Award as part of Canada’s 125th anniversary. She was also named runner-up as Community Leader of the Year in 1994 by Chub Radio’s Community Awards and in 1999 she won the Essence Athena Achievement Award. She was a woman of substance bringing light, laughter and infinite patience to those around her. A full life, well lived, she will be missed.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, October 8th at 1:30 PM in St. Andrews United Church, 311 Fitzwilliam Street, Nanaimo BC.
