September 29, 2006

Aitken, Karen Christine

(nee Mosdell)

Karen passed away peacefully on September 29, 2006 at the age of 64 after a long and valiant battle with ill health. Karen was the eldest daughter of Harry and Greta Mosdell and was born and raised in Nanaimo, spending most of her married life raising her family in Extension. She loved the outdoors and had a huge passion for fishing. She was a very gentle and compassionate person and will be extremely missed by all that knew her.

She will be forever missed and loved by her devoted husband and companion of 43 years, George and her two daughters Marta Kasper (Derrick) and Kerry Busch-Haslam (Kirk) and her beloved grandchildren Anthony and Marta Kristine. Also left to mourn are her two sisters Dianne Maurer (Harry), Marlene Williamson (Lyle), sister-in-law Yvonne Moriez (Butch), nieces and nephews Kathy, Aaron, Stephanie, Jennifer, Charlie, Michael, Gabe and Dylan, and of course her two four legged friends Calamity and Suki.

By her request there will be no service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank the staff at NRGH 3rd Floor and ICU for their compassion and care.

DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE AND WEEP

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints on the snow.

I am the sunlight on the ripened grain,

I am the gentle autumns rain.

When you waken in the morning’s hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush,

Of the quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there, I did not die.
