It is with profound sadness that Josie Gurney was taken from us on December 1, 2010. She was an amazing woman, mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Anyone who was lucky enough to have met her felt her genuine warmth, compassion and love for us all. She touched many people’s lives. She was truly a living angel, and now a real angel watching over us, body, heart, mind and soul.
Josie was predeceased by her mother, Mary O’Leary. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Tim O’Leary (Tamara), Shannon Gurney (Aviv), Nigel Gurney (Danielle); grandchildren: Tabitha, Brianna, Madison, Sienna, Rykler; ex-husband Tim Gurney; siblings: Mary Jane, Stevie, Tommy, Donna, Patti, Kathy, Freddie, Valerie, Shawn, Francine and Loretta; father, Daniel O’Leary; best friend, Debra Knee, as well as many other friends and loved ones.
Josie gave everyone so much of herself and asked for nothing in return. She started working at the Friends of Haven Thrift Store over 20 years ago, where she volunteered her time and dedicated her life to helping women and children and the people of the streets.
A Celebration of Josie’s life will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Nanaimo Conference Centre, Dodd’s Narrows Room, 101 Gordon St., Nanaimo, BC
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in memory of Josie, to a charity of your choice.
