JOSEPH RUMNEY

June 12, 1920 - November 25, 2009

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather.

Joe was born in Harriston, Cumbria England and immigrated to Canada in 1929. He spend his teen years working in the coal mines in Nanaimo. He joined the 1st Canadian Scottish Regiment in 1940 and served overseas until 1945. Upon returning from overseas he married Doreen Barron and settled in Port Alberni where they raised their children. He worked for MacMillan Bloedel Plywood Division for 32 years and then as a guard at the Water Bomber Base for 4 years. After he retired Joe & Doreen moved to Lantzville to enjoy his retirement. Joe loved singing in his church and gardening. He cherished his family and the time he was able to spend with them.

Joe will be missed by many, but the loss will be most greatly felt by (Mary) Doreen, his loving wife of 64 years and their children: Fred (Sandy), Leonard (Judy), Lawrence (Jane), Ross (Maryann), Fiona (Lorenzo), Rossetto; grandchildren: Julie (Ken), David (Daisy), Todd (Jodie), Ryan (Kim), Mike, Caren (Luigi), Glenn, Aaron, Laura, Hayden, Cameron; and greatgrandchildren: Ava, Taylor and Matthew. As well as family in England and his extended family in Port Alberni.

The family would like to thank the staff at Fir Park Village for their care and compassion that they showed towards Dad during his stay there.

Services will be held Mon. Dec. 7, 2009, 1:00 pm at Nanaimo church of the Nazarene, 2150 Departure Bay Rd. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
