John William COWAN

May 15, 2004

COWAN, John William

Born in Toronto and raised in Richmond, BC, John passed away peacefully in NRGH on May 15, after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves his wife, Doree and relatives, friends and colleagues who will miss his wily sense of humour. John’s lifelong passions included aviation, boating and fishing which he enjoyed in good measure. On moving to Nanaimo in 1991, John was active in the Haig Brown, Cowichan and Mid-Island Castaways Flyfishing Clubs. He became an accomplished flytyer and pursued rod building as a hobby becoming an accredited member of the Custom Rod Builders Guild of North America. Prior to moving to Vancouver Island, John served as a Shriner for 30 years as a member of the Gizeh Temple of Vancouver. He continued to be an active member of the Richmond Masonic Lodge No. 142 until his passing. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. F. Chan and the homecare and hospital nursing teams for your compassionate care, and to Dave, Craig, Pat, Ed and Alex for your kind support. No service by request. A celebration of John’s life will be held in June in Seattle. “Skies forever blue, calm seas and tight lines my friend.”
