John passed away peacefully at age 87 in Nanaimo. He is survived by Deanna, his loving wife of 59 years, daughters Tracy and Darlene (granddaughter Alexandra) and son Brian (Michelle and granddaughters Nicole, Carly and Kristen). He will be fondly remembered by many extended family members and friends.
John loved the sports of football and ruby. He played rugby for the Vancouver Rowing Club and football for the Vancouver Blue Bombers who won the Canadian National Junior Football Championship in 1947. John was inducted into the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 in honor of the Bomber's championship win.
John earned a Bachelor of Physical Education degree from U.B.C. and then a Master of Education degree from Western Washington University. He spent his career working as a teacher, Principal and special counselor in B.C.
In his retirement, John loved gardening, travelling, hobby farming and spending time with his grandchildren. He volunteered for the Nanaimo Raiders and as a peer counselor for the Nanaimo Seniors Association.
