BRITTAIN, John Arthur

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of John Arthur Brittain: Dad and Grandad. John, owner and manager of Brechin Bowling Lanes, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday July 9, 2010, at the age of 76. Born in Consort, Alberta, October 22, 1933, he was the eldest of 4 children born to Hubert & Annie Brittain.

Dad was a hard worker who worked tirelessly to build a successful Bowling Center in Nanaimo. Dad also enjoyed spending time in his rose and vegetable garden, and talking with family and friends about bowling, the latest baseball stats, and the endless adventures of his son's families. Grandad allowed us to pick endless raspberries from his garden, and play on his tire swing under his shady willow tree. John started work in logging in central and Northern Vancouver Island, before becoming the owner and manager of Brechin Lanes Bowling Center, a family business that he operated for over 45 years. Throughout that time he served in many Bowling board capacities including Bowling president with the provincial and national 5-pin bowling associations.

John is survived by his 3 sons: Grant (Angela), Douglas (Ayako), Raymond (Tianna.) He will be sadly missed by his 5 grandsons: Isaiah, Jesse, Samuel, Jonas, and Ezra. With great love, he is also survived by younger brother, Don (Rose), and little sister Kay, and predeceased by younger brother, Harold (Bev.)

A funeral service to celebrate the life of loving Dad, proud Grandad, Big Brother, and friend will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 1:30pm at First Baptist Church Nanaimo located at 1650 Waddington Road, reception to follow at Brechin Lanes. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Diabetes Foundation will Gladly be received in John's memory.
