Joan McFarlane
With broken hearts, we sadly announce the passing of our mom, granny, G.G., Joan Shirley McFarlane (Hewitt) on February 19, 2017 at NRGH, with many of her family beside her as she peacefully left us to be with Dad. Joan was an amazing woman that will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Joan is predeceased by her husband, John Earl McFarlane (May 21, 2004) and survived by her children Linda (Bill), Larry (Kathy), Sheryl (Terry), Wendy (Rick) and Chris (Eric) grandchildren, Shari & Shana, Rhonda & Shaine, Tami & Todd, Kyle & Kacy, Dustin, Dallas, & Colby, great-grandchildren, Keenan & Tylie, Madison & Nolan, Ian & Abby, Jasmine & Coulton, Emma, Lucy & Olivia... and her cats, Buddy and Zena.
Joan had many interests throughout her life. Delivering telegrams and deck handing on a tugboat in her teen years, roller skating, bingo and for several years bowled at both Fiesta and Brechin Lanes. She loved knitting and established her own knitting business, Limited Editions Knitwear, which brought customers from all over who wanted to own one of her unique creations.
She spent a lot of time in the past 12 years volunteering at Kiwanis Village and participating at Paradise Isle Seniors Centre, and sang in their choir, which brought her and those she sang to, so much joy! Her kindness and sense of humour will be missed by all those who knew her.
A private family celebration of life will be held. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation in Joan’s name to a charity of your choice.
