Jack passed away on Thursday, July 8th, 2010, having reached his goal of 90 years. Born in Soerabaja on June 21,
1920, Jack spent the early part
of his life in Indonesia and Hol-
land. Following in the footsteps of his brothers, he immigrated to Canada in 1952. Dad lived along and happy life in Ladysmith and died a proud Canadian. Jack will be greatly missed by his family; wife, Anne, to whom he was married for 57 years; children, Fred (Diane), Paul (Louise), Astrid (John), Mieke (David), Jacqueline (Clark), and Johanna (David), 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Jack's life will be held on Saturday, July 17th at 11 am at Bethlehem Retreat Center in Nanaimo, followed by a reception. Dad enjoyed working in his garden and took great pride in sharing the goodness of the earth. He once said: "I have a farm I always wanted & a wife & family many other men could only dream of." The family would like to thank Dr. Steve Beerman, Dad's caregiver, Cora Nanez, & the staff at the Nanaimo Palliative Care Unit for their kindness & compassion.
