Iverna Evelyn DYBVIK

June 27, 2004

DYBVIK, Iverna Evelyn

(nee Jensen)

Born August 8, 1917 at Hillendale, Saskatchewan. Died June 27, 2004 in Nanaimo. Iverna was the daughter of pioneer homesteaders, Jens Jensen from Denmark and Mina Lilleby from Norway. From them, she learned old fashioned skills of cooking, baking and gardening but Iverna had modern interests as well such as nutrition, preventative medicine and flying (she was a trained pilot). She stayed home to look after her parents and worked as a secretary for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture for many years and then suddenly love entered her life in the form of a Norwegian engineer, Chris Dybvik. After they married, she resided with him in the Queen Charlotte Islands and learned to rough it, but made many friends there and in Port Alberni and in Nanaimo where they enjoyed retirement in their home overlooking Departure Bay. After Chris became ill, they resided in a waterfront apartment. After he died in 1997, Iverna continued to live there and then spent four comfortable years at Dover House. Thanks to the staff at Dover House and to good friend Ruth Kroyer for all their loving care. Iverna will be remembered for her cheerful and kind disposition. She is survived by nephews and nieces in Victoria, Cranbrook and Lethbridge and by many great-nephews and great-nieces. A Service will be held at First Memorial, 1720 Bowen Road, Monday, July 5th, 2004 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Iverna’s name to the Alzheimers Society of BC, Suite 300, 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 1E2
