Nichol, Iris May (Francis)

July 1, 1925 ~ May 13, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Iris M. (Francis) Nichol. Predeceased by her husband, Cecil Leroy (Roy) Nichol and granddaughter, Shannon Nichol.

Born in Wadsworth, Tooting, London, Mom came to Canada as a war bride, arriving March 1946, to spend most of her life on Vancouver Island. She was an accomplished Tailor, Ballroom Dancer, Founder & Instructor of the Campbell River Roller Skating Club, as well as Ballet-Tap-Jazz Instructor in Lantzville and other communities. Mom enjoyed many hours of music, dance and entertaining. Some of our fondest memories come from the many events she was involved in. With over 60 years in the Royal Canadian Legion and Auxiliary, she was also a longtime member of the Air Force Association and War Brides Association. They owned and operated the Buena Vista in Qualicum Beach. Her kindness, warmth and vivacious personality, which made her many lifelong friends, will be missed by all.

Survived by three, younger brothers: Ron, John (Mary), Robert (Lillian); two daughters: Sharron (Gary), Brenda (Craig); four stepsons: Darcy, Kent (Kathy), Grant, and Blake (Kim); grandchildren: Geoffrey (Sandy), Gregory (Shawna), Katherine (Billy), Tanner, Sean (Carey), Steve (Amy) and Jason (Nubia) and their families, and 10 great grandchildren.

A memorial will be held at First Memorial Funeral Service on June 12th at 2 pm, 129 Bowen Road, Nanaimo. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation, in memory of Iris (Francis), to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
