MAKUK - Helen

Born October 31, 1920, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2007 at Nanaimo General Hospital with her family by her side. She leaves behind 3 children; Wendy (Frank), Nancy (Debbie), and John (Lisa): 3 grandsons and 2 great grand-daughters. Mom was originally from Manitoba and moved to Nanaimo as a young adult in the late 1940's and has been a resident of Nanaimo for the past 50 years. She worked for many years as a Resident Care Attendant at Kiwanis Lodge until her retirement in 1986. Mom was an active member of the Royal Purple and volunteered for the Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid gardener and an exceptionally talented knitter, who donated most of her handiwork to charities and the elderly. Mom will be bed remembered for her love for her family, her easy going nature, and her tremendous sense of humor which remained with her right to the end. Mom was quick to make friends and everyone who knew her loved her dearly. Mom wanted the nurses on the 4th floor, rehab, the occupational therapy team, Dr. Baird and the community care team at Kiwanis to know how much she appreciated their kindness and compassion. A memorial tea will be held Thursday, March 22, 2007 from 2pm-4pm at Radcliffe Auditorium at Kiwanis House, 1233 Kewanis Crescent. In lie of flowers, donations can be made in Helen's memory to the Hospital Foundation at NRGH.
