HELEN CHRISTINA BAIN

June 6, 2010

BAIN, HELEN CHRISTINA

(nee Taylor)

Helen passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by family, on June 6, 2010. Predeceased by her husband, Norman Cook, and eldest son, Norman Taylor. Helen is survived by her son, David (Anneke); daughter, Lesley (Charlie) Randle; daughter-in-law, Judi Bain; grandchildren: Jeff (Angie), Courtland (Lindsay), Linnette (Dean), Elizabeth (Gilles), Jenaya and Jordan. “Granny,” as she was known to everyone, also had 7 great-grandchildren: Alexander, James, Gabrielle, Cole, Brody, Stephanie, and Kaylee. Helen also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and her foster daughter, Valli Block. She was also predeceased by her beloved dog, Rocky.

Helen was born on August 15, 1918, in Nanaimo, to Reverend Edward G. Taylor and Mabel Geddes Taylor. After marrying Norman, they lived throughout Canada during an air force career. Upon retiring from the air force they returned to Nanaimo. Helen worked at the Vancouver Island Regional Library for several years and devoted her life to her family, church, and community. Helen volunteered for several organizations, including the Air Force Association, Indent-a-Kid, IODE, Tops, and Meals on Wheels, to name a few. The last volunteer job was as a helper in the day surgery ward at Nanaimo General Hospital, while in her 80’s!

During the last year of her life, Helen was able to stay in her home because of the loving care given to her by her caregivers Tet and Raquel. Our family cannot thank them enough for the love and care they gave to Helen during the last months of her life.

Funeral services will be held at Sands Funeral Home, Friday, June 11, 2010 at 1:00pm.. Donations can be made to St. Andrew’s United Church or the charity of your choice.
