Hans Poulsen

September 6, 1929 - January 8, 2011

Hans passed away peacefully in the Palliative care unit at NRGH.  The staff and social workers were exceptional in providing gentle, sensitive care.  He was predeceased by his loving wife, Jytte of 55 years and their daughter, Kathe.  Hans will be remembered by the community and friends as an easy going, kind and gentle man with a quick sense of humour.   Hans and Jytte were born in Denmark and moved to Canada in 1957.  He established a life for his family in North Vancouver, operating his own business there.  Before their retirement, they purchased a house in Nanaimo, and Hans commuted to the mainland before the business was sold. They were the kind of people that could fit in anywhere.  The love and bond they had for each other was immeasurable and solid as a rock, making the transition easy.  Hans had a passion for hockey, soccer, it didn’t matter what the game was he was a sports enthusiast. Their interest eventually expanded to the community market.  Both would venture out and find delightful treasures to sell.  This was a great pastime for both.  They enjoyed the interaction of the community and grew to know many customers on a personal basis.  You couldn’t ask for better friends.  The passing of two wonderful people is a big loss to the community.  They will be sadly missed and remembered for years.
