Goodwin, Gwendoline E.

On May 23, 2010 Gwendoline Eileen Goodwin (nee Spencer) passed away peacefully with her devoted husband of 52 years by her side.

Gwen was born on January 31, 1929, in Nanaimo, to Fred and Ellen Spencer and lived her entire life in Nanaimo. An avid gardener, seamstress and spectacular cook, Gwen embodied the term “Mother.”

Predeceased by her parents, Gwen leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Jim; daughter, Kerry (Mike); son, Kevin (Suzanne); granddaughters: Sydney and Hayley and her devoted companion “Luke.”

Gwen was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Nanaimo enjoying a very active social life, as well as being involved in Japanese embroidery. Gwen traveled many times to the Japanese Embroidery Centre in Atlanta, GA for classes, and in 1995 spent six weeks studying at the Embroidery School in Japan. She later taught this beautiful art form to many of her peers.

The family would like to thank the members of the Nanaimo Home Support Team, the Palliative Care Unit of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and Dr Niles for their kind and dignified care of Gwen which allowed for a graceful passing.

There will be a celebration of Gwen’s life at Trinity United Church, 6234 Spartan Road, Nanaimo, BC on Friday June 4th at 2:00 pm.

Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made, in Gwen’s memory, to the Nanaimo S.P.C.A.
