EDGE, Gordon James

After a short but valiant fight against Parkinson Disease, Gordon passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Lodge on 4th. He leaves behind his beloved wife of more than 54 years Pat, and two daughters: Dianne Bowman (Terry Mulholland) - Ladysmith, grandchildren: Bonny Bowman - Calgary AB, Chad Bowman - Victoria, BC, Wendy Rhyason (Rob Rhyason) - Donalda, AB, Kristy, Caleb, and Colton Rhyason - Donalda, AB. Sisters: Annie Silverson - Saskatoon, SK, Fran Leviston (John) - Calgary, AB, Agnes Lewis (Ed) - High River, AB. Brothers: Roger Edge - High River, AB, Leslie Edge - Winnipeg MB. Many nieces and nephews in BC, AB, SK, MB, and ON. Gordon was predeceased by his parents Edward and Eliza Edge, brother Melvin Edge, Sisters Bella Edge and Louise Smith.

Gordon was born March 15, 1928 in Birch Hills, SK, the 5th of 9 children to Edward and Eliza Edge. Gordon left the family farm in Ridgedale, SK in 1950 to work on a pipeline, arriving in Calgary June 1950 where he met his future wife Pat Shrubsall. They were married Oct. 10, 1953. They had two daughters Dianne and Wendy. Gordon worked 20 yrs as an electrician at Gulf Oil Refinery, Calgary, followed by 16 years in the hospital field, first as Master Electrician in the Holy Cross Hospiyal, and finally as Manager of Maintenance. Gordon took early retirement in 1989.

Gordon loved to travel many times to Hawaii, Australia, and New Zealand, also curling, camping, and walking. Gordon was always ready to help a friend or person in need. Moved to Ladysmith in Sept. 1955 and during the next 12 years, Gordon volunteered with the Ladysmith Resources Centre, the Ladysmith Senior Citizens Centr, RCMP Community Policing Station, Speed Watch, and Citizens on Patrol. He was a member of the Parkinson Support Group and spent many happy days waqlking his beloved "Murphy" and later "Angle and Sparky" at Transfer Beach.

Gordon loved the people and community of Ladysmith and was content and happy to live out his life serving others, with Ladysmith his final resting place. He has gone home, to be safe in the arms of our lord - God Bless you until we meet again.

Memorial Service Friday, June 06. 1pm Ladysmith Eagles Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ladysmith Resource Centre would be appreciated.
