GRIFFIN, GORDON EARL


It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Gordon passed away peacefully on April 15, 2007 at Nanaimo Regional Hospital at the age of 71 with his loving family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Barb, sons Dan (Donna), Rob (Shawna), Don, Mick, Jim (Jennifer), daughter Kathy (Marc). He is also survived by his sisters Jean and Audrey (Gord), his brother Glenn (Kathy). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, numerous family and friends. Gordon was born in Shellbrook, Sask. on Aug 17th, 1935 to Walter and Edna Griffin. Gordon grew up in Richmond and worked in Ocean Falls before coming to Nanaimo in 1963 where he worked at Harmac Pulp and Paper Mill as a millwright until his retirement in 1997. Gordon will always be remembered for his unwavering devotion to amateur sports. He was an umpire for 42 years for Nanaimo Minor Baseball, worked the penalty box etc. for the Nanaimo Clippers for 25 years, and the Nanaimo Boxing Club for over 20 years. Gordon will also be remembered for his great sense of humour and his love for practical jokes. The family would like to thank all the great nurses in the palliative care ward, Doctor's Lane, Love, Marback, and also to our fantastic family and friends for their compassion and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 1:00pm at Bowen Park Complex 500-Bowen Road, Nanaimo, B.C. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Nanaimo Hospice Society, Red Cross or the Children's Hospital in Vancouver.
