Gerrit Thomas Swart of Vancouver, BC passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the age of 43. Born in Dawson Creek, BC, he grew up in Nanaimo, BC before moving to Vancouver in the early 1990s. Gerrit was predeceased by his father, Cornelis Swart and his brother, Neels Swart. He is survived by relatives in South Africa.
Gerrit was well respected and loved for his intellect, work ethic, sense of humor and especially his musicianship. He was a prominent fixture on the West Coast music scene and leaves behind a musical career of over 30 years as a bassist and songwriter. He was a profound and influential figure to many. He will be deeply missed by his numerous friends and colleagues.
A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date, to be announced in local newspapers. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society of BC & Yukon Division, presently located at 565 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 4J4, or to a local chapter for Cancer, would be appreciated.
