George Tanner
December 10, 1924 ~ August 14, 2009
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of George who passed away peacefully at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on August 14, 2009 after a brief illness. He will be forever remembered by Verna, his wife of 63 years; sons: Wayne, Ed (Coral), Bert (Maxine); daughter, Myrna (John); grandchildren: Brian, Leigh Anne, Aaron, Wayland and Shalene; great grandchildren: Rowan, Lily, Isaac and Darwin; sister: Dorothy (Harry), along with countless extended family and friends.
George was born in Rockford, Saskatchewan and after serving in the Canadian Navy he relocated to Nanaimo. George had a varied career until becoming employed with the City of Nanaimo where he worked for a number of years before retiring.
There will be no service by request, however, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 22, 2009, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the home of his son Bert, located at 1511 Bartlett Street, Nanaimo.
The family gratefully decline flowers, in lieu donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. The family extends their thanks to the staff of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Emergency, Intensive Care and Palliative Care units, for their kindness and wonderful care.
