Evelyn (Ev) Mamie Lim

(nee Yip)

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Evelyn (Ev) Mamie Lim, 81, of Nanaimo, BC.  She departed, to be with the Lord, Sunday morning February 20, 2011 at the Palliative Care Unit of NRGH.

Evelyn grew up in Vancouver, the youngest of 10 children to Yip Kew Mow and Eva Mow.  In 1948 she graduated from Fairview Commerce High School.  After serving for a term in the Canadian Navy, she left the service with the rank of Sub-Lieutenant.  She married William (Bill) G. Lim in 1956, settled in Cornwall and started a family.

For the majority of her working life, Evelyn was involved with advertising.  Work aside, Evelyn spent her life expressing kindness, playing sports and bridge, volunteering with worthwhile causes and enjoying friends and family.  She always had a plate of her famous noodles or lemon cake on hand to offer.  She possessed a marvelous ability to make everyone feel like they were truly special.  She will be missed, but never forgotten.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents and 7 siblings.  She will be greatly missed by her partner, of 28 years, Carl Barker; his sons, Sherman and Shayne and their families; her children: David, Wendy (Ken) and Michael; her sisters, Maise Bunn, Bette Chow; her sister-in-law, Marie Yip; 12 grandchildren and other extended family.

The Celebration of Life service will be held 1:30 pm, on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Brechin United Church.  In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations can be made, at the service, to the B.C. Cancer Foundation or the Hospice Society.
